May 30, 2013. #1. For the last several months off and on my wife and I have noticed that our 06 Jetta TDI frequently cranks weakly when the starter is first engaged. The car is on its second battery since new, and this battery is about 2 years old. I checked the battery for correct fluid levels, checked the terminals for corrosion.
I looked over the part numbers and can confirm that the oil pan and oil dipstick are the same if you have the CATA engine. There are some other engine codes coming up but I'm pretty sure that the 2011 VW Touareg TDI in the US still uses the CATA engine because it does not have start/stop that the Euro models do and therefore doesn't need the small modifications, but this is just a guess. SM jumps around quite a bit, but here are the steps for DIYer. 1) Remove belly pan, front and rear noise insulation. I used Rhino Ramps. Need Torx 25 for this and a triple square 8M for 4 bolts. 2) Drain coolant at radiator drain ****, then detach hose from trany cooler and drain some more. temp fix. While preparing to under take the task of removing and replacing the alternator I thought it wise just to check everything once over in an attempt to rule out any other possiblities for the voltage drop i.e ground connections , battery load. alternator connections.
